Rev. Sonja Tobey - Senior Pastor

Rev. Tobey is an ordained elder of the United Methodist Church and has been under appointment in the Oklahoma Conference for ten years. Prior to being appointed to Cushing, she has served in Canton, Union City and Cogar, and Pond Creek.

Rev. Tobey first felt a calling to ministry when she was a senior in high school in Midwest City, Oklahoma, although she did not fully understand or follow her call into ministry for another fifteen years. During this time, she primarily worked as a legal assistant in Oklahoma City. Rev. Tobey earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Nazarene University, and graduated cum laude with a Master of Divinity Degree from Phillips Theological Seminary, Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is currently enrolled at Phillips Theological Seminary working on her Doctorate of Ministry in Homiletics.

Sonja and her husband, Mike, have four children (a son and daughter-in-law, and two daughters), two dogs, and a cat.

Tracie Rose - Director of Children & Family Ministries

Tracie has been the Children and Family Ministries Director since June 2003 and has enjoyed working with the families in the church and seeing the children grow in knowledge and faith. Thanks in large part to Tracie, our Vacation Bible School program is one of the best around bringing in children from all over the community. Additionally, she is responsible for Children*s Christmas programs; family events such as skating outings, picnics, the Easter egg hunt and more; as well as the Children*s Sunday school program. Tracie grew up in Stillwater where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She attended OSU graduating in 1985 with a degree in Business Management. Tracie is married to Glen, and they have two daughters, Randi and Sydney. Since moving to Cushing in 2001, she has enjoyed being part of the community and the FUMC Cushing family.

Rosie Cox - Director of Music Ministries

Rosalea Cox has been with the First UMC staff as music director for six years. She has worked in churches with music programs for over 30 years. Rosalea is multi-talented and is a quite accomplished vocalist, as well as playing the trombone and the piano. She leads the chancel choir, including Christmas and Easter special programs, and the junior praise band, 3 Wee Kings. She is married to Tim and they have a daughter, Kira.

Marilyn Jenkins - Pianist/Accompianist

Marilyn Jenkins has been with the First U MC staff as pianist for 7 * years. During this time she has provided accompaniment for the Chancel Choir, the 8:30 and 10:50 Worship Services, as well as for Christmas and Easter Cantatas, and Children*s Christmas. She began playing for church services and weddings when she was 12 years old. In addition to the piano, she also plays the organ and guitar, as well as sings. She teaches music in the Drumright School System.

Kathryn Pogue - Organist/Accompanist

Kathryn is a recent addition to the First UMC music staff joining us as organist in the fall of 2010. She is an accomplished musician and teacher, and has degrees in Vocal Music Education from Oklahoma City University and the University of Oklahoma. She is married to Patrick and they live on a farm north of Cushing.
