Apparently, I am finding all kinds of "new to me" quotes. Here is the one I heard this week:
“You think you are drawing on water and
you find out you have been carving in stone."
Now, the woman speaking was referring to parenting her tweens and teens. I get this. All the talking and modeling and repeating over and over. It also immediately clicked to me that is what discipling people feels like a lot of the time.
We speak Jesus into people’s lives, and it seems like it is washing away as fast as it is spoken or done. Over na over. Ever feel that way? When we walk with people at any step in their faith journey, it can be very frustrating to feel like we are getting nowhere. This quote reminds us that holy work can happen over time, in an instant, and in many times in between.
Let us keep at this holy work. Let us continue to carve God’s word and love into our world as we also work on our own hearts.
Let’s get to carving!
