Children

Tracie Rose, Director of Children & Family Ministries

Tracie has been the Children and Family Ministries Director since June 2003 and has enjoyed working with the families in the church and seeing the children grow in knowledge and faith. Thanks in large part to Tracie, our Vacation Bible School program is one of the best around bringing in children from all over the community. Additionally, she is responsible for Children*s Christmas programs; family events such as skating outings, picnics, the Easter egg hunt and more; as well as the Children*s Sunday school program. Tracie grew up in Stillwater where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She attended OSU graduating in 1985 with a degree in Business Management. Tracie is married to Glen, and they have two daughters, Randi and Sydney. Since moving to Cushing in 2001, she has enjoyed being part of the community and the FUMC Cushing family.

Vacation Bible School

Each year we invite the children of the community to come learn more about God with us for a week. This is a very exciting time in our church. The church is full of children, youth and adult volunteers that are excited about a week of fun and fellowship. The kids learn daily Bible messages through music, Bible dramas, crafts, games and snacks. We have a closing dinner and program on Friday night that lets parents, grandparents and friends see what the children have been learning all week. This year we had a great time at Shake-It-Up-Cafe where kids carry out God's recipe! We hope you can join us next July at VBS!

Children's Church

On the 2nd and 4th Sundays, the children leave the worship service for Children's Church where preschoolers and elementary children get to experience a worship time just for them. This is where they focus on God and experience Children's Worship through uplifting songs, games, crafts and memorable Bible lessons.

Small Miracles Center

Small Miracles is a ministry to the Cushing community in early childhood education. Academic achievement and spiritual enrichment are fundamental aspects of the child development center and the church*s mission. Small Miracles is a part of the Children*s Ministry of the church. Our goals are to create a setting in which children will find warmth, comfort, and gentleness as well as an abundance of opportunities for movement, exploration, and self-discovery according to individual needs, interests, and abilities. Children's Handbells

The children love to produce beautiful music with our hand bells as they are accompanied by fully orchestrated song arrangements recorded on compact discs, The most unique aspect of this method is that no musical knowledge is necessary on the part of the hand bell players. The way that the system is designed makes it possible to perform almost instantly. The children practice from 9:30-9:45 on Sunday mornings before Sunday School and sometimes during Children's Church. The congregation loves it when we perform during the 10:50 service. All children are encouraged to play during church whether they have attended practice or not.

Sunday School Classes

Join us on Sunday mornings at 10:05 am when we build friendships and learn more about God's word.  Classes are provided for children ages preschool through 5th grade.  Nursery is provided for children under 3.

During the school year, we offer 4 different Sunday School classes and different curriculum that encourages learning the Bible through different ways.

Little Shepherds (Ages 3-Preschool) learn through play and simple lessons.
Noah's Ark (Kindergarten-1st grade) learn through crafts, Bible lessons and a DVD segment.
Young Disciples (2nd-3rd) curriculum includes learning to look up Bible scriptures, read Bible stories and other activities in their activity books.
Young Followers (4th-5th) learn the books of the Bible, read scripture and take part in reading plays that reinforce the Bible lesson as well as other activities.

We will be keeping attendance for Sunday School, and for every five times your child comes to Sunday School, they will be able to visit a treasure chest.

Acolytes

Children serve each week during the 9 am and 11:10 am service as acolytes, or candle-lighters. Generally, children are ready to begin serving as an acolyte in either Kindergarten or 1st Grade, depending on maturity,. Acolyte training is held each year in August or provided on an individual basis throughout the year as needed.

Family Activities

As a church, we are committed to the preservation and the building up of the family. Throughout the year, we have activities that include the entire family. Some of the family activites we have are an Easter Egg Hunt, Summer Swim Party and Cookout, and a fall hayride with a hotdog cookout, fishing, games and pumpkin decorating. Sometimes we have movie night, go bowling or skating. Beacuse of these times together, great friendships develop.
